Pregnancy
Pregnancy is a hugely important time for mums to be. Facing life-changing challenges not to mention the physical changes that occur over the nine months and beyond. I fully understand this as I have two children myself, Ollie who is six and Ava who is two.
Massage is not something to discount at this time, as I don't regard it as an illness! However, the physical stresses placed on the body can cause discomfort particularly postural problems, and massage can be a great way to relax and unwind. Though there are a couple of things to bear in mind. Firstly I would like you to discuss your intentions to have sports massage with your midwife. Secondly massage is contraindicative in the 16 weeks of the first pregnancy and with subsequent pregnancies, with no previous problems, massage is recommended after 12 weeks. Positioning needs to be thought about for your comfort and safety, perhaps a couple of your own pillows or supports may come in handy. Massage is often taken place lying on your side. Any concerns about your health prior to massage seek advice from your GP or midwife.
All under 16's need to be accompanied by a parent or guardian at all times throughout the session. Please get in touch for any questions regarding minors as the massage varies very slightly from adults.
For those who have a disability, massage can be hugely beneficial. Generally speaking I will try to cater for most disabilities but again contact me in person if you are unsure about your suitability and perhaps discuss your interest with your GP or consultant.
